Zora Deaver Schrantz, age 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 in Marietta, Georgia. She was born January 21, 1924 to the late John Curtis Deaver and Mary Betty (Henderson) Deaver of Tolar, Texas.
Graveside services for Mrs. Schrantz will be Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, Texas. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Marietta, Georgia.
Zora was the fourth child of eleven children. She grew up on a farm during the Great Depression. Prior to the start of WWII, Zora was introduced to Loren Schrantz by her sister, Loree Deaver who was dating and eventually married, Loren’s close friend at the time, Walter Hood. The couple started dating prior to Loren being sent overseas and they continued corresponding while he was in the war. Upon Loren’s return from the war, the couple wed on December 15, 1945. They were married until his death in September 1979.
Zora was very active in church in each town in which she lived - the First Baptist Church of Granbury, Texas, the First Baptist Church of Clifton, Texas, and Taylor’s Valley Baptist Church of Temple, Texas, as well as Johnson Ferry Baptist of Marietta, Georgia. She served as a Sunday School teacher, on church committees, and in outreach ministry to those who were unable to attend church physically. Her devotion to God, family, and work was a testimony to her faith, love, and loyalty. She loved her family very much and delighted in spending time with them, especially around her home cooked meals.
Zora is survived by her daughters, Janet Schrantz Kesler of Temple, Texas and Terri Schrantz Copeland (John) of Marietta, Georgia; granddaughters, Kim Kesler Cooper (John Randall) of Temple, Texas, Crystal Copeland Watkins (Alex) of Marietta, Georgia, and Mandy Copeland Kranzlein (Hunter) of Marietta, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Bailey Armstrong and Maicee Armstrong of Temple, Texas, and T.J. Armstrong of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her brother, Hoyt Deaver (Rhonda) of Weatherford, Texas; sisters-in-law, Betty (Griggs) Deaver and Dahpna (Mabry) Deaver; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Loren Schrantz; son-in-law, Philip Kesler; her siblings, Helen Nix, Loree Hood, Claudine Mitchell, Laura Jo Manley Frankie Hujber, Curtis Deaver, Morgan Deaver, Bill Deaver, and Don Deaver.
Zora will be laid to rest on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, Texas. The graveside service will be available for viewing via live-stream at https://www.facebook.com/RestlawnLaFeria
A celebration of Zora’s life and God’s faithfulness will take place on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church of Marietta, Georgia. A live-stream of the service will be available via Zoom using ID: 678-955-9555 and enter passcode: 1234
