Winona Withers

Winona Baker Withers, 83, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at her residence in Carrollton, Texas after a five year battle with cancer.
Winona was born November 18, 1924 in Harlingen, Texas to Girdo Nix Baker and Wilhelmina Engelbrecht Baker.  She graduated from high school at Stuart Place School.  She and her husband, Charles R. (Bobby) Withers, built a house on Stuart Place road in the early 1950’s.  He preceded her in death in November 1992. Winona continued to live on Stuart Place road until July of 1997, at which time she sold her house and moved in with her daughter in Carrollton.
She worked until retirement as a secretary for Rio Grande Building and Loan Association and enjoyed reading.
Winona is survived by her daughter, Wanda W. (James R.) Patterson; granddaughters, Whitney, Hannah and Bonnie Patterson; brother, Girdo Marion (Jo) Baker; sister, Dorothy Lou (Curtis) Medley; sister-in-law: Mary Ann Burnett; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Graveside services only will be held on Friday, February 8, 2008, 2 p.m., at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito with Rev. Tim Brewer officiating.
For those desiring to do so, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Visiting Nurse Association of Texas (VNA-Hospice).
