William “Billy” Rollin Wepfer, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, friend and attorney, of Harlingen, Texas, passed away due to Alzheimer’s on December 12, 2022, at the age of 71 in Hutto, Texas, surrounded by his wife and two daughters. William was born on December 7, 1951, to Dale and Betty Wepfer in Raymondville, Texas. After graduation from Raymondville High School in 1970, he attended and graduated from Southwest Texas State University with his Bachelor of Arts Degree and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. William then attended the University of Texas School of Law and received his Juris Doctor in 1980. He returned to the Rio Grande Valley in 1980 and practiced law until 2020. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Harlingen during much of that time. William met the love of his life, Deborah Simms, and after marrying in 1981, they had two daughters. Brandis and Madison.
During his lifetime, William was an avid coin collector, enjoyed researching his ancestry and loved spending time with his family and dogs. He was a voracious reader and gatherer of trivia and had a quick wit and great sense of humor. William and Deborah loved music and attended concerts featuring Paul McCartney, James Taylor, the Rolling Stones, Elton John and innumerable other musicians. He attended his last rock and roll concert in January 2022, and music continued to be an integral part of the Wepfer/Simms household until his death. William was the kindest man and loved his wife, children, grandchildren and animals until the end.
William was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Russell and Steven, and his 11 dogs. He is survived by his wife, Deborah; daughters, Brandis Wepfer (Pablo Ferrando), and Madison Wepfer-Aiello (Gianni Aiello); grandchildren, Julian and Cecilia Ferrando and Millie Aiello, all of Austin, Texas; his brother, Dale “Bing” Wepfer (Mary Gene); sister, Leslie Cangelosi (Don Cangelosi); and five nieces and nephews.
