William “Bill” Crane, 75, peacefully passed March 19, 2023 at his home in Harlingen, Texas. He was born October 1, 1947 to the late C.O. and Helen Hill Crane in Harlingen, Texas.
Bill proudly served in the United States Army Military Police Corps during the Vietnam War attaining the rank of Specialist 4th Class. He was then transferred to Korea where he served as a U.S. Army Military Police Dog Handler.
After completing his military service, Bill attended Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas where he received a Bachelor of Science degree.
He went on to become a professional educator with La Feria ISD receiving numerous awards during his tenure with the school district. For fifteen years, Bill was the La Feria Lions game announcer and pep rally leader. He served as faculty sponsor of the Student Council for many years and started LFISD’s first Science Club. He retired after thirty-six years of dedicated service to the students and the community of La Feria.
In his leisure time, Bill enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid golfer.
He was of the Christian faith and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Harlingen.
Bill’s parents preceded him in death. Left to treasure his memory is his loving wife of forty-five years, Linda Grayson Crane; honorary son, Dan (Sheryl) Moreno and their sons, Reagan and Carson Moreno; sisters, Dotty (Tony) Brunneman, Martha (Berkley) Shofner, Vicky (Fred) Kana, several nieces and nephews, and his loving pets Pete and Sam.
Memorial visitation will take place Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Bill’s life and legacy will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Chris Hall officiating.
In keeping with Bill’s favorite saying, “Just keep it simple”, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to La Feria ISD/Bill Crane Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1159, La Feria, Texas 78559.
