William J. Schmidt

December 22, 1942 — March 23, 2016

Harlingen:  William (Billy) Joe Schmidt went to his eternal rest March 23, 2016.
Billy was born December 22, 1942 to Edwin Carl Schmidt, Jr. and Myra Shronts Schmidt in McAllen, Texas.  His childhood was spent doing things most little boys love to do; fishing, hunting, playing with his siblings and cousins, and causing a little mischief here and there.  His parents introduced him to his first love, music, at an early age.  His aptitude for playing and repairing the organ was what led him to meet the only love that would trump that of music, his wife, Frances Faye Whittle Schmidt of Harlingen, Texas.  They married three months after meeting, raised 4 kids, and enjoyed 3 grandsons, 6 granddaughters, and 2 great grandsons together.
Although Billy moved often, the majority of his life was spent in deep south Texas.  Many happy years and friendships were forged while he worked the family business, Harmony House, with his parents and siblings in Mission, Texas.  While he lived in Florida, he practiced his skill of woodworking.
After falling gravely ill in 2005, Billy moved back to south Texas to be in the care of his daughters.  Billy was able to finish his years in their company, and the company of his grandchildren.  His favorite way to pass the time was to watch the youngest group of grandkids play, sitting on the porch, enjoying a drink and a cigarette.
Billy is survived by his wife of 27 years, Frances Faye Whittle Schmidt of Harlingen, Texas; children: Cynthia Ruth “Cyndie” (Dale Murden) Haden, William Joe “Joey”(Trisha) Schmidt II, Michael Allen “Mike” (Shelly) Schmidt, and Frances Nicole “Nicky” (Sean) Brashear, grandchildren Christopher Dyer Haden II, Sara Alice Bunn, Lindsey Louise Bunn, Alexandra “Alix” Faye Haden, Hannah Ming Schmidt, Grady Lloyd Brashear, Kathryn Nicole Brashear, and Samantha Marie Brashear; siblings brother Robert “Bob” Edwin Schmidt, sister Susan “Susie” Myra (Lynn) Murphy; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents Edwin Carl and Myra Ruth Shronts Schmidt, Jr., brother Edwin Carl Schmidt III, and sister Judith Marie Schmidt.
The family will gather at the family home in Harlingen, Texas on April 08, 2016 to celebrate the life and the lives touched by Billy, Dad, Papa… Friends are welcome to join, plenty of room to toast to the life and times of Billy Schmidt.
