William O'Donnell

W.H. (Bill) O’Donnell passed away on April 27, 2014 at Retama Manor in Harlingen, TX.
Bill was born May 29, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to Thomas and Gladys Repke O’Donnell.  He attended the University of Illinois and was a Banker with the Rio Grande Savings and Harlingen National Bank.
Bill proudly served his country with the U.S. Army in the European Theater during WWII and the Korean War as a Forward Observer.  He was honorably discharge in April 1953 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He was a decorated war veteran, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Battle Stars, 2 Overseas Service Bars and a WWII Victory Medal.
Bill was a member of the college sorority, Pi Kappa Phi and was an Eagle Scout for the Boy Scouts.  He enjoyed playing dominoes with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Julaine Barnes of Houston, TX, Janice O’Donnell (Bill) of San Antonio, TX, Jeanine Manders of San Antonio, TX and James O’Donnell of Harlingen, Texas; former daughter-in-law, Melissa; grandchildren, Abbe Netherland, Terry Barnes, Tana Leonard (Jarred), Christine Walker, Erica Hogge (Jonathan), Nicholas O’Donnell, Tarah O’Donnell, Calista Manders, John Manders, and Amanda Manders; ten great grandchildren; a sister, Shirley O’Donnell and his pets, Nikki and Sandy.
Bill was preceded in death by his former wife, Charlotte Whitcomb; a son John O’Donnell; brother, Thomas F. O’Donnell and sister, Florence Hintz.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014, 11 a.m., at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 205.  Services will conclude at the funeral home.
