William Robert Beaty

William Robert Beaty, 94, passed away on December 30, 2014 at his home in Harlingen, Texas.
He was born on November 24, 1920 in Kansas City, Missouri and moved to St. Louis, Missouri at a young age.  He was preceded in death by his parents William Floyd and Alice Caroline Liebsch Beaty and his beloved wife of 72 years, Marian Virginia Beaty.
Bill graduated from Ritenour High School in St. Louis and Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri.  As a young man he worked with his father as a carpenter and contractor.  He joined the Missouri National Guard in 1940 and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a decorated World War II veteran having served in the American Theater, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, and the European-African Middle Eastern Theater.  He was at Normandy, D-3.  He remained in the National Guard following the war, eventually in a full time capacity and retired with over 30 years of service at the rank of Colonel.  He then served the State of Missouri as the Director of Missouri’s State Emergency Management Agency until his retirement in 1980.  In addition to service awards, he was awarded the State of Missouri Meritorious Service Medal, the State of Missouri Conspicuous Service Medal, and the Missouri Emergency Duty Ribbon with 7 bronze stars.
Bill and his wife and family lived in St. Louis, MO, Jefferson City, MO and Charleston, MO before moving to South Texas.  He and his wife enjoyed boating, motorhoming, dancing, singing, ukulele playing and more, and especially spending time with friends and family.  They retired to Fun & Sun RV Resort in San Benito, TX where they enjoyed 21 years of active retirement.  In 2011, they moved to Golden Palms Retirement Center in Harlingen, TX where they enjoyed new friends and relationships.  He was involved in several building projects at Fun & Sun, at his church in San Benito, and in Mexico.  He will be remembered for his kindness, willingness to help all and for being a true gentleman.
He is survived by his loving family, his son and daughter-in-law, Timothy (Sherry) Beaty of Columbia, MD, his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy (F.R. “Buz” ) Sutherland of Charleston, MO, two granddaughters, Pamela (Mark) Rounsley of Greer, SC and Carolyn (John) Ryan of Annapolis, MD, and six great grandchildren, Steven, Allen, and Chandler Rounsley, Addison and Abby Fleming, and Ally Ryan.
A member of the Episcopal faith, he was an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church of San Benito where he had served as Senior Warden, was a member of the choir and served as a lay reader.
A memorial service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, 11:00 AM, at All Saints Episcopal Church in San Benito, TX.  The service will be officiated by the Reverend Sandra Dower.  A reception will follow the service in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 499 N. Reagan St., San Benito, TX 78586 or charity of choice.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff of Golden Palms Retirement Center for their kindness, love and care of both our father and mother.
