Weldon “Pete” D. Hale, 80, went to be with the Lord on February 26, 2011 at his residence.
Pete was born July 3, 1930 in Caddo, OK to Oather and Mildred Brister Hale. The family moved to New Mexico and Pete graduated from Portales, NM High School. He served four years in the U.S. Navy. He and his brother played basketball for his Navy unit’s championship basketball team and later for Eastern New Mexico University. Pete was an oil field worker, supermarket manager, produce salesman, and a barber before he married Ronda Mulroy in 1962 and moved to McAllen, TX as the Morton Foods distributor. Later he co-owned the P & G VW Repair Shop, built air boats and started “Pete’s” Fiberglass Repairs. He retired to Arroyo City where he attended Arroyo Baptist Chapel.
Pete enjoyed living life to the fullest with his family and friends. He had many passions including hunting, dune buggies, fishing the Mexico beaches, air-boating, drift and night fishing the Lower Laguna Madre, and “Benji” his dog.
Pete was preceded in death by parents, Oather and Mildred Hale; his first wife, Mackie Jauldine Alexander; his brother, Jerry Hale; his nephew, Tommy Tucker; his brother-in-law, Charlie Grimshaw; and grandson, James Zachary Hale.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ronda Hale; son, Gary D. (Sally) Hale of Houston, TX; granddaughter, Rachel Loraine Hale; brothers, Norman (Dot) Hale of Hobbs, NM and Neal (Bernice) Hale of Clovis, NM; sister, Nina Jo Grimshaw of Tucumcari, NM, and sister-in-law, Jill (Ken) McKnight of Yantis, TX. Pete is also survived by nieces and nephews, Boyd (Debbie) Grimshaw, Saundra (Danny) Castillo, Wayne (Belinda) Hale, Jacque (Larry) Cash, Kathy (Ron) Davis, Laura (Troy) Messer, Lisa Hale, Larry (Tonya) Hale, and Sandra (Shawn) Kilgore.
A Memorial Service celebrating Pete’s life will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Arroyo Baptist Chapel, 37656 Marshall Hutts Rd, Arroyo City, TX with Rev. Bob White officiating. The family thanks all who helped Pete throughout his life.
