Remembering Wayne Taylor Cochran 1925 - 2011
Wayne Taylor Cochran, 86, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at his residence in Harlingen, TX after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Lynnville, Graves County, Kentucky on March 15, 1925 to Floyce (Doc) Cochran and Ebbie L. Cochran.
He was a veteran of World War II having been drafted into the Army on Dec. 1943, mid-term of the senior year at Cuba High School in Cuba, Kentucky. He completed basic training in Oklahoma and arrived in Cherburg, France in Aug. 1944, two months after “D Day”, and participated in the famous “Battle of the Bulge”.
Wayne received his BS Degree in Accounting from Murray State College in Murray, KY and worked with Oakley/Richardson CPA Firm for two years. He moved to Hopkinsville, KY and was an Auditor with the Department of the Army at Ft. Campbell, KY for 30 years including three years at TASCOM HEADQUARTERS in Worms, Germany. He and the family traveled to many interesting places while in Europe.
He was a dedicated worker in his career and a devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was also a dedicated worker in the Church o Christ wherever he lived; Murray and Hopkinsville, KY, Norman, OK and currently at 8th & Harrison Church of Christ in Harlingen, TX. He enjoyed golf, basketball games, bridge and square dancing.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Caroline; one daughter, Waynette (Stanley) Walker of Flower Mound, TX; four grandchildren, Chelsey Walker, Charles Walker, Chynna Waller (all in college) and Christopher M. Huri of Yakima, WA; and twin great granddaughters, Abigail Suzanne Huri and Madison Joanne Huri of Yakima,WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Edd Cochran, sister, Larue Page and daughter, Suzanne Huri.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011, 2 p.m., at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen, TX with Jake Vincent and Danny Mann officiating. His ashes will be laid to rest at a private burial in Highland Park Cemetery in Mayfield, KY.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to 8th & Harrison Church of Christ, SCC Estates Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
