Walter F. Rhyner, 93, after a long amazing Christian fulfilled life as a devoted and loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed into eternal life on Saturday, January 30, 2016.
Walter was born October 23, 1922 at his home in Lozano, Texas to Rachel Kubli Rhyner and Jost Rhyner. His WWJD life was spent farming and raising cattle. His greatest hobby were fishing, fishing, fishing, pets and fruit trees. He was of Swiss decent and Lutheran faith. He was fluent in Swiss German, Spanish and Japanese.
Walter was inducted into the United States Army on November 3, 1944 where he served his country until his Honorable Discharge on November 22, 1946. He was a proud World War II veteran.
Walter married Thelma Goode on December 16, 1949 and they recently celebrated their 66th anniversary.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Jake (Rowena) and John (Florence) Rhyner; sister, Barbara (Walter) Christian. Walter is survived by his wife, Thelma; his daughters, Connie (Gary) Erskine and Becky (Pat) Peacock; son, Robby; grandchildren, Philip Peacock, Rachel (Brian) Schupp, Tricia (Paul) Brown, Lori Erskine, Summer Erskine, and Brazos Peacock; great-grandchildren, Noah, Asher, Ezra Schupp, Rio and Tatum Brown; sister-in-laws, Carrie (Tom) Nolen, Joyce Goode; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Walter’s life will be held in the Mausoleum Chapel at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 6, 2016, with David Mann officiating. Full Military Honors will also be conducted.
