Vivian Pauline “Polly” Callaway Madden
HARLINGEN:
Polly Madden, age 87, quietly passed away Sunday, March 16, 2008 at her home in Harlingen, Texas.
Polly Madden was born in Perrin, Texas to Richard T. and Emma Lou Callaway.  Soon after, her family moved to Harlingen where her father built their home and she was raised with her three younger brothers, Richard T., David M. and James W.   Polly continued to live the remainder of her life in her childhood home raising her own family, running her sno-cone business, and enjoyed her four grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
In 1939 Polly married Donald Joseph Madden to whom she was faithfully married for 63 years.  Polly was a strong-spirited, loving and generous person who was always able to light up a room with her bubbling and vivacious personality.
She was a homemaker and took great pride and pleasure in raising her three sons, Don, Richard and James.  She participated with and supported her sons in all of their activities and was later active with her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.  Her goodness and unconditional love was beyond compare and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Polly was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Emma Lou Callaway; her husband, D.J. Madden; two brothers, Richard and David Callaway; sister-in-law, Christine Callaway; and her first grandchild, Kimberly Jill Madden, who dearly loved her “Poppie.”
Polly is survived by her three sons, Don and his wife, Susan of Austin; Richard and his wife, Wendy of McAllen; and James of San Antonio.  She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Mike and his wife, Crystal of Harlingen, and Ashley and Dustin Madden of San Antonio; her youngest brother, James Callaway and his wife Beatriz of Guatemala City, Guatemala; her sister-in-law and best friend, Sherwynn Callaway of McAllen; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Her family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Lisa Dix-Emperador, Dr. Todd Shenkenberg and their caring staff.  We would also like to thank her private nurses, the staff at Sandi Jo Funk Hospice, and all our family and friends who were there for us in her final days.
Visitation will be at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen on Tuesday, March 18 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present to receive friends and family from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 19 at 10 a.m. and burial will follow at Mont Meta Cemetery.
“How fortunate we are that in our hearts we keep
Forever the memories of those we love…
And the times we shared together.”
