Virginia G. Humphrey

Our Heavenly Father received Virginia Gamble Humphrey into His loving arms January 25, 2022.  Her last days were lifted in prayer and surrounded with love, family, and a lifetime of memories.

Virginia was born August 9, 1929 to the late George W. Gamble III and Grace A. Gamble in San Benito, Texas. She graduated from San Benito High School in 1946. She went on to receive secretarial training.

She was a devoted Christian, loving wife and mother, and a true American. Virginia was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Los Fresnos and later the First Baptist Church of Combes.

She faithfully worked with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Los Fresnos State Bank, Los Fresnos CISD, Ansul Company, and Hollon Oil Company. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, nature, square dancing, and round dancing.

Virginia raised three children, teaching godly merits. She taught, lived, and led by example. She was hardworking, fair, disciplined, kind, and loving. So much more can be said about Virginia. You will always be loved and your example will live on.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, John C. Humphrey; her son, John C. Humphrey Jr., her parents, George W. and Grace A. Gamble; and sister, Mary Ann Gilbert.

Left to treasure Virginia’s memory are her children, Steve (Barbara) Humphrey and Bonnie (Lonnie) De Lay; grandchildren, Mike (Stacey) Humphrey, James (Amy) Humphrey, Lynn (Reed) Bowers, Vanessa (Eric) Kana, Jason (Ashantee) Humphrey, Luke (Ashley) Wilson, Amber (Jon) McGinley, Lea (Josh) Medders, and Casey (Brianna) De Lay; twenty great-grandchildren and nine great great-grandchildren; and, numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

Virginia’s family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, January 30, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place Monday, January 31, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Mont Meta Chapel of Peace Mausoleum.
