Virginia B. Hill

November 11, 1922 — January 31, 2017

Virginia Walker Hill, 94, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on January 31, 2017.  She was born November 11, 1922 in Yorktown, TX to Hamilton Glenn and Fannie Walker.  She graduated from Boling High School in 1940.  She was married for 54 years to the love of her life, Elmer Hill, until his passing in 1998.  During their marriage, they lived in numerous areas due to his service in the United States Army Air Corps and the United States Air Force during both World War II and the Korean War.  They eventually settled in Beaumont, TX.

Virginia always planned on being a career woman in addition to a wife and mother.  She worked for 30 years at Lamar University.  After retiring as a Reports Analyst, she remained active in her community.  Virginia and Elmer helped create thrift stores at the Methodist churches in Crystal Beach, Texas and Lindale, Texas. After moving to Harlingen, she used this knowledge to help start the Second Chance Thrift Store at the First United Methodist Church.  Virginia also volunteered for many years at Marine Military Academy’s Iwo Jima Museum and Gift Shop.

Virginia is survived by her two sons: Robert Glenn (Jodi) Hill of Harlingen and Gary (Martha) Hill of Winona, TX; her five grandchildren: Stacey Hill, Daren Hill, Drew (Jennifer) Hill, Lewis (Kali) Hill, and Brittney (Ricky) Vines; and eleven great-grandchildren: Connor, Bailey, Kaylee, Landon, Emma, Andi, Evan, Lilly, Bryce, Brylynn, and Kambry.  She is also survived by her sister, Jo Ann DuBois of Boling, TX and loving nieces and cousins.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Valley View Senior Living, Windsor Atrium, Golden Palms Rehabilitation and Superior Hospice for their professional and comforting care.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.  A memorial service will be held Friday, February 10, 2017 at First United Methodist Church of Harlingen at 10:00 AM with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall.
