HARLINGEN:
Virginia Eubanks, age 81, passed away in her sleep on Friday, May 9, 2008 at her home in Harlingen, Texas.
Born January 9, 1927 in Mesquite, Texas, Virginia was the oldest child of Gus and Davis Jarrell who moved to Fort Worth when she was a baby.
She graduated from Paschall High School in 1944 and attended Texas Wesleyan College for three years. On May 24, 1948 Virginia married James E. Eubanks of Santa Rosa, where they settled in 1949 when James returned to farm with his brother Eugene and father George.
Jim and Virginia lived in Santa Rosa until 1997 when James retired, at which time they relocated to the Harlingen County Club. Virginia completed her college degree at Pan American University in 1970 and was also the Santa Rosa High School librarian from 1965 to 1985.
After retiring from the school district she began her career as a realtor and later became one of the area’s most prominent real estate agents. Virginia was a long time member of the Santa Rosa Methodist Church and in later years was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Harlingen.
Her family and close friends will always remember, and miss fondly, her smile and her laugh and how she was so at ease with people.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Gus and Davis Jarrell and later by her son-in-law Kenneth Milam in 1988 and husband, James in 2004.
She is survived by her daughter Elayne Milam Mattar of Harlingen; daughter Gina Payne of South Padre Island; son George Eubanks of Harlingen; sister, Margie Daniels of Fort Worth; sister-in-law Marie Eubanks of Galveston; grandsons Mark Milam, Matt Milam, Davis Eubanks, Colin Eubanks; granddaughters Misty Milam and Michelle Mattar; and numerous nieces and one nephew.
Visitation will be Monday, May 12 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with family members present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 13 at the First United Methodist Church in Harlingen at 10 a.m.
