Viola H. Ramirez, 92, peacefully passed from this life on Sunday, August 1, 2021. She was born to the late Lucas M. Hernandez and Lilia D. Hernandez on February 21, 1929 in Brownsville, Texas.
Viola was a devoted wife and mother. She was a devout Catholic, a parishioner of St. Helen Catholic Church in Rio Hondo, and a member of the St. Helen Altar Society. Then under their guidance initiated the Guadalupana Society and served as its president for several years and continued as a member until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ruben Ramirez; her parents, Lucas M. and Lilia D. Hernandez; sisters, Zoila Ochoa and Celia Piña; and her brother, Celso Hernandez.
Left to treasure Viola’s memory are her children, Elaine Cavazos (Edward Emanuel), Randy Ramirez, Eddie Ramirez, Roy (Norma) Ramirez; grandchildren, Jason (Margaret), Jennifer (Daniel), Janelle (Alex), Justin, Royce (Cassie), Randall, and Holly; great-grandchildren, Araceli Cavazos, Bianca Cavazos, Janae Cavazos, Jonas Cavazos, Jason “Buster” Cavazos Jr., Ian Gonzales, Mac Gonzales, Abigail Cavazos, Ruben Ramirez, Xyler Ramirez, and Xyan Ramirez; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Her sister, Helen Drumright, also survives Viola.
Viola’s family wishes to thank her caregivers, Irene Garcia, Corazon Hospice, Dr. Anshu Bhatla, MD and Su Clinica staff, Dr. Juan Garza, MD, Dr. Shereef Hilmy II, MD, and Dr. Ismael Lopez, MD with South Heart Clinic of Harlingen for their compassionate care.
The Holy Rosary will be recited Wednesday, August 4, 2021 beginning at 7:00 p.m. (Click the link below to view the recitation of the Holy Rosary via live-stream.) A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Rio Hondo. Following the Mass, Viola will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jason Cavazos, Royce Ramirez, Randall Ramirez, Daniel Gonzales, Alex Ramirez, and Austin Taylor. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the St. Helen Guadalupana and Guadalupano Societies.
