Harlingen:
Vincent D. Carruth, CMDR U.S.N. (Ret), passed away at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen on January 5, 2008. He was 84.
He was born in New Orleans, LA on July 19, 1923 to Bruce D. and Corrine Streck Carruth.
He entered the Navy in New Orleans on July 1942 as an aviation cadet and received his wings in July 1943 at NAS Corpus Christi, TX. After serving for 29 years he retired in Brownsville, TX in July 1971.
He was a life member of the Retired Officers Association, the American Legion, the Confederate Air Force and the Commerative Air Force.
In 1977 he moved to Harlingen where he resided until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Holly Margaret in 1953, his first wife June (Jones) of 32 year in 1976 and his second wife Belle Kay (Branning) of 19 years in 1996.
He is survived by a sister, Catherine Etherdige and family of Dallas; a brother Jon Carruth of Mandeville, LA; sons Stephen Carruth of Houston, TX, David Carruth of Ft. North Hollywood, CA; step-sons, Michael Branning and family of Costa Rica, Mark (Lucia) Branning and family of Canyon Lake, TX, Kimes (Debbie) Branning and family of Yukon, OK; and grandchildren, Kimes II and Tyler Branning of Yukon; and Kayte Branning of Costa Rica.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2008 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2008, 10 a.m., at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Purdy officiating. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Harlingen.
