Vicky Lynn "Granny" Gribble Wright

January 14, 1954 — June 3, 2023

Vicky passed away in Weslaco, TX on Saturday June 3, 2023. The cause of death was cancer… but she fought the fight till the very end. She was a true believer in Jesus Christ and we know that Vicky is in the arms of her Lord and Savior.

Born on January 14, 1954 in Abilene, TX to Lewis Gribble and Georgia Lee Henderson Gribble.  She attended Bonham Elementary, Lincoln Junior High, and Cooper High School in Abilene, TX. Vicky was the youngest of 3 siblings.

Vicky moved to Harlingen, TX in 1974 and met and married the love of her life Daniel “Dan” Lee Wright.  They have two children, Stephanie Rhyner and Sabin Wright.

She has 3 grandsons that she called her 3 angels: Ty Garrett Rhyner, Jake Hunter Rhyner and Luke Daniel Wright.

As we know Vicky wore many hats…from initially being a cosmetologist, to running a law office, owning an answering service and the Hop Shop, to working with her husband at Wright Way Construction, and later in life owning her own construction company Border Contractors.

She was passionate about her volunteer services and some of those included the RGVLS Gilt by Association Show, the RGVLS Market Hog Show, and the Cameron County Fair and Livestock Show. She also served on many other committees such as PTAs, 4-H Clubs, 4-H and FFA Beef Clubs, and many Booster Clubs in lower Rio Grande Valley.

Vicky was so instrumental in guiding and providing anything necessary for the youth to succeed.  She was always available with her time and money to help all the kiddos around her.

She was a member of the DAR and the First Baptist Church of Rio Hondo, TX.

She loved hunting, fishing, and watching football with Ty, Jake, and Luke. She followed Ty and Jake around the state playing football and competing in FFA events.  For those that knew her…knew she never missed an event.

Vicky coached softball teams, little league baseball teams, and little league football teams.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert Gribble; and her husband, Dan.

She is survived by her daughter Stephanie Wright (Buck) Rhyner; son, Sabin Wright (Susan Coffman); 3 grandsons which were her world, Ty Garrett Rhyner, Jake Hunter Rhyner, and Luke Daniel Wright; brother Dr. Jerry and Mrs. Carlene Gribble; 2 nieces, Christian Gribble and Courtney Gribble Evans; and 2 nephews; Jerry Gribble II and David Gribble.

The family would like to thank her lifelong friend Jo Ann Long for being there to the bitter end.
