Ventura P. Atkinson

Ventura P. Atkinson, 98, a lifelong resident of Rio Hondo, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 27, 2018.  She was born on July 14, 1920, in Rio Hondo to Eulalio and Cruz R. Perales.

Ventura was a member of St. Vincente De Paul Catholic Mission in Lozano, Texas. She enjoyed reading the Bible and watching bull riding, and game shows, playing chalupa, dancing, and doing various arts & crafts projects.  She, also, enjoyed spending time with family, and attending sports events and working on word find puzzles.

Mrs. Atkinson is preceded in death by her parents Eulalio and Cruz R. Perales; brothers: Jose Perales, Blas Perales, Francisco Perales, Juan Perales; sister: Eulalia P. Garcia; husbands: Lauro Gonzales and Aniceto Atkinson.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Lupita (Robert, Sr.+) McIver, Maria (Leon, Jr.) Tamez, Manuel (Angie) Gonzales, Rita (Raul, Jr.) Lopez, Sofia Gonzales, Eulalia Gonzales; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; sisters: Cruz Atkinson, Pomposa Garza, Maria Cortez, Margarita Landeros; brother: Jesus Perales and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will start Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the Holy Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home.  Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m.  Monday, October 1, 2018, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Rio Hondo, Texas. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Honor to serve as pallbearers will be Javier Cisneros, Jaime Cisneros, Lionel Garcia, Carlos Lopez, Michael Lopez, Charlie Rodriguez, Robert McIver, Jr., Manuel Gonzales Jr., and Christian Huerta. Honorary pallbearers will be Isaac Rodriguez, Isaiah Cisneros, Gavin Cisneros, Nicholas McIver, Robert McIver, III, Carlos Andres Lopez, Mateo Lopez and Alexander Lopez.
