Velma Lervold Bobo

Velma Lervold Bobo was called to eternal rest with our Heavenly Father at the age of ninety-four on January 30, 2023.

Velma Eugene Wineinger was born in Belleville, Kansas to the late George E. (Pete) and Minnie Hall Wineinger on October 5, 1928, the youngest of five children. When she was five years old, she moved with her family from their farm back to Belleville. While growing up, she worked at the Belleville Greenhouse and A.L. Duckwalls, a five-and-dime store, until graduating from Belleville High School in 1946.

After graduation, she went to work at the First National Bank in the bookkeeping department, and shortly thereafter, she was promoted to secretary. She married Robert Dean Lervold, a farmer, on April 10, 1949, and moved to Scandia, Kansas. When she had her two children, Maurice and Beth, born in 1950 and 1952, she was able to be a stay-at-home mom. She then went back to work in the banking system, starting as a teller, then assistant cashier, then ending as vice president until her retirement in 1992.

Velma was a member of the Amana Lutheran Church in Scandia, Kansas, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and church auditor. She was also a 4-H leader, president of the 4-H Clovia House Mother's Club in Manhattan while Beth was a student at Kansas State University. Velma held the president's office of the National Association of Bank Women for north central Kansas. She was a member and served as treasurer of the Lt. Thomas Barlow DAR in Harlingen, Texas for six years.

Robert and Velma managed their money well so that they could buy land to increase their farming business. After her retirement, she and Robert traveled in their motorhome. They started spending their winters in Harlingen, Texas. They enjoyed square dancing and the many friends they made socializing, especially playing cards, which she enjoyed until her passing. Shortly after celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary, Velma lost her husband in 2000.

While still living in Harlingen, Velma met and married Wm. R. Clubb in 2002. Then she lost her second husband in 2004.

In 2012, she met and married James R. "Jim" Bobo. Jim and Velma took numerous trips throughout the U.S. and all over the world. After seven years of a very happy marriage, her third husband died in 2019.

Because Velma was always wanting the best for her children and grandchildren, she emphasized the importance of obtaining an education to better themselves.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Glenn and Ray; sisters, Edna Freeman and Faye Homolka Rizek; and her son-in-law, Hans Maslo.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Beth Ann Maslo, and son, Maurice (Susan) Lervold; grandchildren, Brandy (Adam) Hayes, Kyle (Caryn) Orgera, Brooke (Cory) Barnes, Brynn (Steve) Saskowski, Kevin Orgera, Scott (Kristin) Lervold, and Keith Orgera; stepchildren, Russell (Donna) Bobo, Paul Bobo, Janice Bobo, Norman (Darlene) Bobo, and Marvin (Alysia) Bobo; great-grandchildren, Cort and Case Orgera, Nash and Witt Hayes, Eastyn, Kooper, and McCoy Barnes, Blaize and Bayker Lervold, Roman and Remy Saskowski; nine step grandchildren and ten step great-grandchildren; and, numerous nieces and nephews.

Velma will be greatly missed by all her family and friends who loved her. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Harlingen, Texas. Interment will take place in Norway, Kansas.
