Troy Harold Myers, Sr.

Troy Harold Myers, Sr., aged 89, passed away at his residence on April 30, 2008.
Troy was born April 18, 1919 in Indiahoma, Oklahoma to Thomas Dee Myers and Clara Bussanmus Myers. He was the middle child of three. They moved to Iowa Park Texas near Wichita Falls, Texas. After high school, Troy attended Draughan Business School in Wichita Falls, Texas and then worked in the oil industry as an accountant and bookkeeper at Freer, Texas. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942, and was stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas, before service in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, in the signal corps as part of a glider wing.
While stationed at Shepard Air Field in Wichita Falls, Texas, Troy met his future wife Monica Loran on a blind date. They married on April 25, 1943. After discharge in 1946, Troy, Monica and their eldest son, Troy Jr. moved to Littlefield, Texas to join his father and mother to farm. Troy and Monica were successful farmers, and after 11 years in Littlefield, the family moved to Harlingen, Texas, where they continued farming cotton, citrus and vegetables, and cattle ranching. Before and after retirement, Troy and Monica traveled extensively by motor home and travel trailer through the US and Canada. Troy was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He resided in Sunshine Country Club Estates since 1995. Troy was the Past Exalted Ruler of the Harlingen Elks Lodge, serving in 1989.
He was preceded in death by Monica his wife of 59 years, and his father and mother, and sisters, Catherine Holt of Lubbock, and Waldene McKinney of Littlefield, Texas.
Troy is survived by his children Troy H. Myers, Jr. (Carol), of Bradenton, Florida, a daughter Carol Wold (David) of Rochester Hills, Michigan, and Tommy Myers (Georgia) and Terry Myers of Harlingen, Texas. He has eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 Ed Carey Dr., Harlingen, Texas.
The funeral procession will depart Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. for a funeral service at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
Pallbearers will be Troy H. Myers, Jr., Tommy Myers, Terry Myers, James Myers, David Wold, Mark Hendricks, Daniel Wold and Andy Wold.
A special thanks to Edith Lozano, Diane Foster, and Cathy Walker for the care given to Mr. Myers during his last years.
