Los Fresnos:
On February 24, 2007, Toula K. Lay entered into final peace and rest with the Lord after a lengthy illness. She was born on November 14, 1927 and was preceded in death by her loving parents, Lois and George Krakos.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Carol L. Cornelison, and son-in-law, Robert, granddaughter, Leigh Anne Cornelison and grandson, Cale Adam Cornelison (wife, Nicole). She is also survived by her loving sisters, Mary Ann Batchelor of Kerrville, Texas and Barbara Stark of St. Petersburg, Florida along with her brothers, Stephen Krakos, (wife, Adela) of Harlingen and Billy Krakos, (wife, Judy) of Fenton, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews, all held dearly in her heart.
“Toula” graduated from nurses training from De Paul Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri in 1948. She was a committed and dedicated registered nurse all of her life. She worked at Valley Baptist Hospital when it was located on “F” Street. She ended her career as a public health nurse retiring from the Texas Department of Health in Harlingen. Toula wanted to acknowledge and thank her friends and co-workers for the many happy years working at TDH.
Toula wanted to than and especially recognize her dedicated and loyal friends over the years: Mr. & Mrs. Van Fitzgerald, Jr. of Harlingen, Margie Nielser of Chandler, AZ, Christine Hanna of Cleveland, Ohio and Sister Mary Nicholas Vincelli of Mission.
Toula’s family wishes to acknowledge their thanks and appreciation for caring support from Dana and Larry Norman of San Benito, Robin Batchelor of Austin, beloved neighbors, Mr. & Mrs. Kyle Stephens & family of Los Fresnos, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Hervey & family, Sister Patricia DeBlieck, Olga Oralia Rodriguez, Dr. Shridhar Kotta and his fine staff at Valley Diagnostic Clinic and a special thank you to Mrs. Charlene Rowles, Toula’s Hospice caregiver.
Funeral services are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 Ed Carey Drive in Harlingen, Texas. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27 at the funeral home. Private interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, Texas.
Honorary Pallbearers are Robert and Cale Cornelison, Billy and Stephen Krakos, Larry Norman, Fred and Travis Helmerichs, Tommy Ballenger, Bret Branon and Russell Whelan.
