On Saturday, October 14, 2017, Tommy Lee Bullard Sr., passed away at the age of 90, joining his wife, Billie Virginia Rogers Bullard, who preceded him. Dad passed away peacefully at the home of his son, Tommy Lee Bullard Jr., with family present.
Tommy was born in Fort Worth, Texas on August 3, 1927. He was raised in San Benito, Texas by his paternal aunt, Edith Bullard. He was a quarterback for the San Benito Greyhounds, playing with his friend, Carl Otsuki, while in high school. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 2, 1946 while a senior in high school, and was assigned to Fort Sam Houston. He was then assigned to Gorizia, Italy for the duration of his time in the Army. He was honorably discharged from the Army on January 31, 1953, with the rank of Sargent. He was employed with AT&T for 38 years. Dad was able to travel around Europe during his stay in Italy. He loved to travel, and brought his traveling bug home to the States. Dad was an avid football fan. He was known to follow high school football games all over Texas, and was an avid Dallas Cowboy Fan.
Tommy was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Virginia Rogers Bullard. Also preceding him were aunt, Edith Bullard and other close family members, Mildred Bullard, Donald Bullard (Eva), Leslie Bullard, J.T. Bullard, John Rogers, Michael Rogers, and Randy Rogers. He is survived by his children, Belinda (Michael) Burkholder, Tommy Lee Bullard, Jr. (Lawauna), and Laura Bullard Stevens; his half-sisters, Jannette Sumrall, Wanda Bergloff; his grandchildren, Stephen Hollon, Lee Hollon (Kathleen), Billie Jean Bullard Burda (Thomas), Austin Lee Bullard, Tony Stevens (Melissa), John Stevens (Nora), and step-granddaughter Brandy Burkholder Luna (Rafael); his great grandchildren Fisher Hollon, Hagan Hollon, Benjamin Burda, Virginia Burda, Thomas Jospeh Burda Jr., Kassidy Stevens, Johny Stevens, Aaron Stevens, and step-grandchildren Sean, Cybeon, Trinity, Lucian & Ezra Luna, one step great grandchild, Ashton Luna. Surviving nieces and nephews are Joey Rogers (Esther), Ronnie Miley (Nina), and great nieces and nephews, Corey Rogers (Claudia), Jerry Rogers (Karen), Jennifer Rogers Barrie (Rob), and Jonathan Miley. Tommy is also survived by longtime friend, Gloria Galvan and family.
The family would like to extend special thank you to Kindred Hospice, to Louise, Pam and staff, and also to Dr. Robert Minor and staff, for their care.
Visitation hours will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the funeral home.
There will be a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, Texas with military honors by VFW Post 2035. The family has asked to please make a donation to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
