Thomas (Tom) G. Roberts, 81, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2015 after a lengthy illness.
Tom was born on July 26, 1934 in San Benito, TX to Oliver Truett Roberts and Elarene Elizabeth Norman. He was a graduate of San Benito High School and later graduated from Texas A & M University with a B.S. Degree in Agriculture and Entomology. He also proudly served his country with the United States Army.
Tom worked for many years as a Customs Agent and as a Ag Specialist Agent with the USDA in Brownsville, Texas before retiring several years ago. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Brownsville where he was active in the church choir. He also was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department in Rancho Viejo.
Tom loved the outdoors and especially had a passion for deer hunting and fishing. He spent many hours with family and friends enjoying those passions.
Survivors include his wife, Mell Tucker Roberts; son by marriage, Mickey Tucker;son, Tom Roberts, Jr.; daughter, Kim Funk; sisters; Trella Haynes and Norma Lee Madden; 7 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Ginger Quezada.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Brownsville, 2:00 PM, Friday, November 6, 2015.
