Harlingen:
Thomas S. Bailey, 88, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010 at his residence in Harlingen.
Thomas was born in Sharon, PA on February 9, 1922 to parents, Thomas J. and Susie B. Bailey. He graduated and received a B.S. Degree from Purdue University. While at Purdue he met his wife, Marjorie, and they were married September 20, 1942. He later served with the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II.
In 1951, Thomas and Marjorie moved to Sharon, PA where Tom worked as a Computer Programmer for Westinghouse Corp. until his retirement in 1984. There they were members at St. Paul United Church of Christ for many years. Tom also was a former city council member in Sharon, PA during the 1950’s and 1960’s.
In 1989, they moved to Harlingen and then to the Golden Palms Retirement Center in 1999. Thomas enjoyed traveling, sports and had a passion for Purdue University football where he was a coach in the 1940’s.
He is survived by a daughter, Wanda Huffman of Cloverdale, CA, son, Thomas W. Bailey and wife, Diane of Richmond, VA, two granddaughters, Donna Huffman of San Jose, CA and Marjorie Bertsch of Arcata, CA, grandson, Thomas S. Bailey of New York, NY, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Bailey in 2009, brother, John Bailey and sister, Elnora Provence.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caregivers of Tom over the past couple of years, Ruby and Paul Navarrette, Anthony Ruiz, Olivia Carvajal and others of P & N caregivers.
A memorial service honoring the life of Thomas will be held in the Texas Room at Golden Palms Retirement Center, 2:00 PM, Friday, June 4, 2010.
