Theodore “Ted” Wernli, 71, passed away June 8, 2013 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen.
Ted was born February 3, 1942 in Akron, Ohio to Edgar and Doris Wernli. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy and retired with the rank of CWO4. Ted was employed with the Harlingen Independent School District. He taught History at Memorial Middle School and Government at Harlingen High School. Ted, “Coach Wernli” was an Assistant Tennis Coach for the Harlingen High School Cardinal Tennis Team. Ted retired from the school district in 2011. He took the lessons he learned in the Navy to make a difference to the kids he taught and coached.
He is survived by his wife, Katsuko Henmi Wernli; children, Gregory (Esmeralda) Wernli, Tracy Wernli (Brian Hedges) and Steve Wernli; siblings, Wanda Harris, Glenn Wernli and Wesley Wernli; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a funeral service at 7:00 P.M. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Mount Zion Garden of Memories in Temple, TX.
