Dateline: Harlingen: Thelma Jones Rusland, 84, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.
Thelma was born in Freestone Co., Texas on November 17, 1922. She was the daughter of Roy Jones and Cora Webb Jones. She moved to the Rio Grande Valley with her parents in 1926, where she has since resided. She attended the Wilson Tract School and then Durham Business College in Harlingen.
Thelma retired as a Trust Banker from Nations Bank (formerly First National Bank of Harlingen) in 1987. Prior to her employment with the Bank in 1970 she was secretary to Osce Friscoe, a long time Harlingen attorney.
Thelma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harlingen, member of the Alpha Omicron Master Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and member of the National Association of Bank Women during her banking career.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Rusland in 1996, and is survived by her daughter, Janet Lowther of San Antonio; granddaughters, Cydne and Jamie Shaw of Houston, sister and brother-in-law, Arvie and Eddie Caughfield of Harlingen and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday, April 2, 2007 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Graveside serivces only will be held in the Mont Meta Memorial Park Mausoleum, 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 3, 2007 with the Rev. Chris Hall officiating.
