Suzanne V. Dougherty, 55, passed away Thursday October 27, 2016 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
Suzanne was born May 23, 1961 in Albany, New York to Dr. Joseph and Katherine Dougherty. She began her career as a Staff Nurse at Valley Baptist Medical Center Harlingen in 1994, transitioning to a Charge Nurse at the Watson W. Wise Dialysis Unit, before joining the faculty at The University of Texas at Brownsville/ Texas Southmost College Nursing Program until 2013. Most recently, Suzanne was a Registered Nurse at Palms Behavioral Health in Harlingen.
Suzanne had a passion for nursing, and a passion for education. She obtained a B.S. in Biology from Pan American University in 1984, a B.S. in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Texas Pan American in 1994, a M.S. in Public Health Nursing (MSPHN) from the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2006, and her Doctorate of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Houston in 2011.
She is survived by her son, Brian Arriola of Harlingen, TX; father, Dr. Joseph Dougherty of Harlingen, TX; mother, Dr. Katherine Dougherty of Harlingen, TX; and brother, Timothy Dougherty of Harlingen, TX.
Visitation hours will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Larry Klein as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff involved in Suzanne’s care and comfort.
