Shirley Doris McDonald

Shirley D. McDonald, 80, died Saturday, 3 May 2008 at home in Harlingen.
Shirley was born in Thayer, Missouri in 1927, her mother was Mildred Phillips and her father was Dorr D. Phillips, both whom predeceased her.
On 19 August 1947 she married Leo J. McDonald of McLean, Texas.
Shirley graduated from Southwestern Baptist College in 1946 with a A.A. Degree.  She graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1948 with a B.A. Degree.
Shirley and Leo McDonald have four children, a son, Randal S. McDonald (Libby), a daughter, Rebecca McDonald Mignano (Tom) who have two children, Daniel and Madeline.  Another daughter, Kathleen McDonald Mague (Ben) who have three children, Jeremy (Daniell) who have two children, Ryan and Kaylee, Stephen and Anna, and another son, J. Brett McDonald (Lorri) who have two children, Matthew and Emily.  She also is survived by one sister, Betty Baker of Columbia, Missouri.
Shirley was both a Marine and Navy wife over the period of 60 years of marriage.  She taught school in many places, finally becoming one of Calvary Christian School’s greatest teachers from which she retired some fifteen years ago.
Shirley loved her family, loved to travel and was a good friend to everyone she met.  She and her husband, Mac, learned to square dance and did so in many of their various locations while serving in the U.S. Navy.
Visitation hours will be held from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Tuesday, May 6, 2008 with the family receiving friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Memorial services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Harlingen, 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 7, 2008.
Burial services will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas at a later date.
