Los Fresnos, TX:
Shirley Anne Lofstrom, 68, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2009 at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, Texas. Shirley, the daughter of Robert and Flora Watson, was born in Boswell, Oklahoma on October 21, 1940.
Beloved wife of 47 years to Roy Lofstrom; loving mother of daughters Deanna Bode, Krista Schulte, Cindy Hagan and Shawna Boyce; cherished grandmother of Lauren and Dillon Bode, Sydney and Alex Schulte, and Hillary and Sarah Hagan; dear sister to brothers Eddie Watson (Jenneane) and Clark Watson and sister Flo Caldwell (Horace); caring aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Joy Howell and sister-in-law Betty Watson.
Roy and Shirley met 50 years ago at the University of Houston, where Shirley had earned a full scholarship. Roy has always said, “I fell in love with her the moment I met her.” They were married in Chicago, Illinois where they lived for many years and eventually moved to South Texas in 1974.
A role model to many, Shirley was a woman often known to guide and encourage others. She had many close friends and family with whom she spent hours playing cards and socializing. It is known that Shirley’s strong bond with her daughters resulted in hours of daily conversations. She guided, taught, listened and laughed, and helped them grow every day.
Shirley was part of a bridge club for over 20 years where she made life-long friends. Together they watched their children grow and shared many life experiences. She also enjoyed sewing, stained glass, decorating, crafting, as well as working within the community.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her strength, passion, courage, attitude, humor and love will be remembered forever. She has been and always will be a special angel to all of us.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 9th, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas. A reception will follow at the Lofstrom home in Los Fresnos, Texas.
