Shirley Brown, 87, passed away January 4, 2014 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen.
Shirley was born November 12, 1926 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Victor Carter and Mable Irin Carter. She was a high school graduate. Shirley was married to Cecil Charles Carter for 19 years and then to Charles Brown for 3 years. She was bookkeeper for 45 years and was employed by Prudential Insurance for 6 years and for American United Insurance for 1 year and for a store for 12 years as a bookkeeper. Then Shirley moved to Texas and worked for a Citrus Co-op in Weslaco for 11 years, the Young Flying Service until 1990 and H& R Block from 1984 to 2009 as a Senior Tax Advisor. She was a member of the Harlingen Art Forum for 20 years and the Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in San Benito. Shirley was an ardent reader, an artist with oils, water colors, and ceramics.
She is survived by her two grandchildren, Ms. Renae Taylor and her three sons and Ms. Laura Carter and her three children (2 girls and 1 boy).
Shirley was preceded in death by both of her husband, her sister, her son and great grandson.
A memorial mass will be held at a later date and will be announced.
