Saul Alonzo Sr., 71, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020, surrounded by family. A lifelong resident of San Benito, Saul was born on August 14, 1948, to Encarnacion P. Alonzo & Maria Guadalupe Adrian Alonzo.
Saul retired as a Machinist Setup Operator after 45 years of service. He worked for E. J. Brach & Sons in Chicago, Illinois for 14 years, and then with Trico in Brownsville, Texas until his retirement. He enjoyed sports and loved to barbeque for his family and friends. He loved Tejano music and dancing. He was a hardworking and responsible caring person. He would help anyone who would ask for help. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
His parents, Encarnacion & Maria Guadalupe Alonzo, his sister Bernadette A Gonzales, grandmother, Modesta P. Alonzo, and his aunt, Irene Alonzo preceded Saul in death.
Left to cherish his memory is wife of 48 years, Otilia “Tila” Alonzo; children, Saul Alonzo Jr., Sam Alonzo, Adam Alonzo, and Abigail Alonzo; grandchildren, Karla Hope Alonzo, Adrian Alonzo, Damian Diaz, Justin Joseph Alonzo, and Serenity Faith Leal. He is also survived by one brother, David Alonzo.
The Alonzo family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, June 28, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary starting at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday, June 29, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Sam Alonzo, Adam Alonzo, Steven Curry, Luis Cavazos, Louie Cavazos, and Aaron Mendoza. David Alonzo will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Special thanks to all the doctors and medical staff at Harlingen Medical Center and Solara Hospital.
