Sarah Wheaton Massey

Sarah Wheaton Massey born March 18, 1919 passed away peacefully into the hands of her Lord and Savior on August 25, 2008.  She was one of eight children born to W.H. and Minnie (Belschner) Wheaton.  Upon marring Galen Massey, she moved to Los Fresnos where they raised two sons, Robert Dale and A.W. Massey.
Sarah was employed by the Los Fresnos School District; she was the dietician for food services for 18 years.  Upon leaving the school district and moving to Harlingen in 1988, she became head bookkeeper for Tropical Savings & Loan, a position she held for 15 ½ years.  She continued to enjoy life through her dedication to her church family at Calvary Baptist Church, her many friends, relatives, travels and 17 enjoyable years of volunteer work at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Dear to her heart were her 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  She is survived by her loving family, sons, Robert and A.W. Massy; daughters-in-law, Gloria and Sherry, grandchildren, Scott, Thomas, Chad Massey and Taylor (Massey) Weber.  Also surviving are four sisters, Dena Domingue, Johnnie Stapleton, Maggie McClanahan and Roxie George and sister-in-law Ruth Wheaton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Galen Dale Massey, brother, C.W. Wheaton and sisters, Mattie Mae Miller and Totsey Freeman.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 28, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be at Calvary Baptist Church in Harlingen, Friday, August 29 at 11 a.m.  Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
