Harlingen: Sarah Eugenia Chatfield Key, 91, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2007 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. She was born October 17, 1915 in Culloden, Georgia to Lucius Harvey Chatfield and Arty Lucile Chatfield.
Sarah moved to Sweetwater, Texas when she was one year old and moved to Harlingen, Texas in January 1924. She attended school from third grade to graduation from Harlingen Texas High School and then enrolled in Harlingen Business College, after which she was employed for short periods by several firms and finally settled at Sears Roebuck and Co., where she worked as personnel assistant for 35 years and retired in 1972. On April 12, 1942 she married Glenn E. Key.
Sarah was a member of First United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Harlingen Eastern Star Chapter # 641, a member and past president of 9:30 Study Club, Past Matron of Eastern Star, vice president of Zonta Club, a member of Daughter of the Nile Club, and past president of Wesley Ann Sunday School Class.
She and her husband traveled extensively having visited 57 different countries and her hobbies were photography and hunting.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Glenn E. Key on October 22, 1995, her parents, Lucius Harvey and Arty Lucile Chatfield, and one brother, Roy B. Chatfield on December 24, 1990 who succeeded his father in the business of Chatfield Plumbing Co.
Sarah is survived by her brother-in-law, Elton Key and his wife Phyllis of Mission; sister-in-law, Hazel Simmons Arlington, TX; one brother Victor Norman of Mission; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 2, 2007 from 9 a.m. till service time at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Friday, February 2, 2007, 11 a.m., at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home with Rev. David Mann officiating. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
