Sarah Kathryn Hampton

Harlingen:
Funeral services for Sarah Kathryn Withers Hampton will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2008 with John Kutzenberger and Rev. Sue Huntsman, officiating.  Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Sarah Hampton was born in Marceline, MO on October 5, 1917, came to the Valley and settled in Stuart Place with her mother, Hettie Alice and father, Alonzo Thomas Withers in 1918.  She graduated from Stuart Place High School in 1936.
Sarah was employed by Dan Murphy with Magnolia Petroleum Company during the late ‘30’s and the early 1940. She was also employed by the First National Bank of Harlingen and then by Rio Grande Building and Loan Association from 1951 to 1976.
Sarah was married to Martin B. Perkins in 1941.  He was on his 15th mission when he was shot down over Germany, which resulted in his death in 1944.  In 1947 Sarah married Marvin E. Day and to this union a daughter, Mary Alice, was born.  They were divorced in 1951.  Sarah married Roger Hampton 1976, and he died in 1985.
Survivors include her two grandsons, Robert Qualls of Houston and Matthew Qualls of North Glen, CO; two sisters, Polly Bloom of Harlingen and Mary Leatha (Wheatley) Stringfield of Port Isabel; brother, James A. Withers of Florida; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very good friend and companion, Charles Luckins of Harlingen.
She was preceded in death by a brother, George Withers of Valley Mills in 1988; a brother, Charles Robert Withers of Harlingen in 1992; a sister, Betty Jane Kutzenberger of Harlingen in 1994; and a daughter, Mary Alice Qualls of Houston in 2003.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2, 2008 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present to receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Donald Bloom, Douglas Bloom, Larry Wheatley, James Wheatley, Tommy Withers and Michael Withers.
