Santos Salinas

Santos Salinas peacefully passed into eternal life on December 15, 2020 at the age of 96.  She was born to Belen Larralde and Castula Alvarado Larralde in Bishop, Texas on August 6, 1924.

Santos was a valued, longtime employee of the Rio Hondo Independent School District where she was a Cafeteria Worker and Head Cook before her retirement.  After retiring from RHISD and not one to still, Santos became a hospital volunteer at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.  She dedicated fifteen years to serving patients and their families at KMC.

Left to treasure her memory are Santos’ children, Guadalupe (Raquel) Lopez, Castula Garcia, Agapito (Laura) Lopez, Valentin (Yolanda) Lopez, and Juventino (Tomasa) Salinas; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and, 1 great great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Juventino Salinas, Sr. and her son, Juventino Salinas, Jr.

Santos’ family will receive friends and relatives at San Benito Funeral Home on Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock on Thursday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Rio Hondo, Texas.  Following the Mass, Santos will be laid to rest at Rio Hondo Community Cemetery (Jack Carpenter Cemetery/Old Spanish Cemetery).

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Christopher Salinas, Luis Lopez, Agapito Lopez, Valentin Lopez, Guadalupe Lopez, and Adan Garza.  Honorary pallbearers are Miguel Lopez and Leonardo Lopez.
