Santiago H. Parra

July 25, 1934 — March 21, 2011

San Benito, TX: Santiago H. Parra “Chago”, 76, of San Benito, Texas passed away peacefully Monday, March 21, 2011 surrounded by his loving family.

He fought a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer exhausting every measure possible. Despite the rigorous chemo and radiation treatments he always found the strength to sneak in a dance with his grandkids or by himself.

Santiago was born July 25, 1934 in Comonfort, Guanajuato, Mexico. After serving in the US Army Artillery Division, Santiago later became a proud citizen of the United States. He spent his life with his loving devoted wife of 49 years, Maria Parra.

Santiago was a simple man who loved life, valued the importance of a hard days work, loyal to his faith, devoted to his family and friends. He was a truly devoted sports fan, enjoyed to fish, and also loved to spend time with his grandchildren watching them play baseball and softball. He was always up for a dance or simply sitting on his porch with a book of word search.

A Special Thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for guiding us to MD Anderson Cancer Hospital, and giving us the gift of time.

He is preceded in death by his father, Serapio Lopez, and a brother, Jose H. Parra.

He leaves behind his wife and soul mate, Maria Parra; a daughter, Leticia Parra (Fred Rocha); his sons, Jaime (Rosie) Parra, Daniel (Loree) Parra; and 6 grandchildren, Kristopher Parra, Kassandra Parra, Kristion Parra, Tanya Parra, Torrie Parra and Lauren Parra; his mother, Cecilia H. Parra; his sisters, Juanita (Ruben) Castaneda and Estela (Bernabe) Pena; and his brother, Jesus Rios.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 from 10:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. at San Benito Funeral Home.
