Samuel Ferguson Magee

Samuel “Sam” Ferguson Magee, 83, answered God’s calling on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Harlingen Medical Center.
Sam was born October 5, 1924 in Nixon, Texas to Lorenza Berklin Magee and Bessie Ferguson Magee. He was a graduate of Donna High School and then attended Pan American University. Sam proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant with the United States Marine Corp from 1943 to 1946. He was employed by South Texas Lumber in La Feria as a general manager and was an ordained deacon at the First Baptist Church in La Feria. Sam was a faithful and loving husband, wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed visiting the elderly and shut in, fishing, woodworking, and witnessing for Christ.
Sam is survived by his wife, Betty Wilkey Magee; children, Mark L. Magee, Patricia J. Phillipp, Beverly E. Hayes, Samuel W. Magee; grandchildren, Steven B. Magee, Mariam J. Magee, Tara L. Macias, Zahn M. Phillipp, Brittany N. Hayes, Ryan R. Hayes, Zoe F. Magee and Sara W. Magee; and great grandchildren, Julianna L. Macias, Jade A. Macias, and Caleigh M. Macias. Also surviving are close relative Shannon Powell; sister-in-law, Lucille Berman; nephew, Robert Berman; and special friend and caregiver, Irma Armenia.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 05, 2007 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 6, 2007, 10 a.m., at First Baptist Church in La Feria with Rev. Jerry Johnson and Rev. Bill Slaughter officiating. Burial will be held Friday, December 7, 2007, 2 p.m., at Nixon Cemetery in Nixon, TX.
Pallbearer will be Steven B. Magee, Ryan P. Hayes, Zahn M. Phillipp, Jim Gamble, Bruce Gamble and Carl Bauer, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mission Work at First Baptist Church of La Feria.
