Ruth Serna, 64, passed away on January 23, 2015 in Harlingen, TX. Ruth was born September 28, 1950 in Vance, Mississippi to Pedro and Paula Cordero Serna.
Ruth spent her entire life in Harlingen at 1915 Buena Vista St. Early on she became guardian to her nephew, who she raised along with Grandpa. She taught school, worked with the police, and volunteered. Over the years, Ruth was a mom to many cats. She was a member of the 8th and Harrison Church of Christ and enjoyed reading, everything green, everything cats, old television shows, John Denver and Barry Manilow songs, and going to church services.
Ruth is survived by her brothers: Emilio Serna of Wheeling, IL and Pedro Serna Jr. and wife Virginia of Bastrop, TX; nephews and nieces: Guy, Heidi, and Dawn Serna of Bastrop, TX and Ulises Serna and sons Aidan and Aric of Pasadena, TX; and family friends Jacob and Marilyn Vincent, and Katy Burke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Paula Serna; brother Domingo Serna and wife Olivia; sister-in-law Frances Serna; brother Frank Serna, wife Susana, and daughter Armenta; and niece-in-law Kristen Serna.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 5:00 PM at the 8th and Harrison Church of Christ. Interment will be held at Combes Cemetery at a later date.
