Rufino Adames, 75, peacefully passed from this life September 25, 2022 in Harlingen, Texas. He was born to the late Apolonio and Eulogia Aguilar Adames on September 23, 1947 in Mathis, Texas.
In his younger years, Rufino worked in the construction trade. Among the construction projects on which he worked and of which he was very proud are some of the buildings in South Padre Island, Texas. He also worked as a migrant worker.
Rufino enjoyed the great outdoors. As a young man, he enjoyed fishing with his father and family. As a loving father, he loved taking his children to the beach, swimming at La Esquelita, fishing at the low water bridge in Rio Hondo, target shooting at La Piedrita, and playing baseball at the Industrial Park.
He loved working in his flower garden, especially caring for his rosebushes. He found great joy in caring for them and then seeing the fruit of his labor as they produced beautiful roses.
While dementia took its toll on Rufino, he nevertheless always asked for his great-grandkids – Anthy “NeNe”, Jose Roman, Madilyn, and Amalia.
Rufino is preceded in death by his daughter, Nora Adames, his parents, Apolonio and Eulogia A. Adames; his siblings, David (Petra) Adames, Olga Ruth Adames, Maria Adames, Eliseo Adames, Amalia (Jesus) Ruiz, and Arturo Adames.
Left to treasure Rufino’s memory and legacy are his children, Norma Lee Adames, Nelda Marie (Ramiro) Moreno, Adam Adames, and Noelia Adames; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Rufino is also survived by his siblings, Eliseo (Lucy) Adames, Jesse Adames, Donicio (Linda) Adames, Daniel Adames, Virginia (Christobal) Abrego, Maricela Adames, Dolores Adames, and Janie Adames.
The Adames family will receive relatives and friends Friday, September 30, 2022 starting at 9:00 a.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. At 1:00 p.m., the funeral procession will depart to Mont Meta Memorial Park where Rufino will be laid to rest.
