Ruby Lee Garza passed away peacefully on August 7, 2023 in Houston, Texas at sixty-six years of age. She was born to the late Henry and Noemi Plata Ybarra on October 10, 1956 in San Benito, Texas.
Ruby attended San Benito High School. She was a valued employee of the Cameron County Health Department for thirty-eight years. She was a clinic supervisor at the time of her retirement after thirty-eight years of dedicated service.
She was a committed Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Harlingen. She enjoyed attending church, participating in Bible studies, and spending time with her church family. Ruby had the honor of traveling to Israel where she was baptized in the Jordan River. She read her Bible daily and shared the word of God with everyone.
In her leisure time, Ruby enjoyed spending time at the beach with her grandchildren and watching her grandchildren participate in sports: basketball, football, baseball, track, cheerleading, and tennis for Berta Cabaza Middle School and San Benito High School Greyhounds. Ruby had a passion for running. She ran a half marathon, 10Ks, and enjoyed running at the San Benito resaca with her running buddies. She also enjoyed shopping with her daughter and spending time with her son.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alberto Garza Jr., and her parents, Henry Ybarra and Noemi P. Ybarra.
Left to treasure Ruby’s memory are her children, Albert Garza (Vivian) and Laura Beth Guerra (Fred); her grandchildren, Ava Garza, Jacob Guerra, Gianna Garza, Isabella Guerra, Enrique Garza, Giuliana Guerra; and her siblings, Henry Ybarra (Raquel), Estela Balli Ybarra Gonzales, Alicia Aranda (George), Myra Ramos, and Rosie Martinez.
The Garza family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A celebration of Ruby’ life will begin Thursday evening at 7 o’clock in the funeral home chapel. A Homegoing Service will take place Friday, August 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Harlingen. Following the service, Ruby will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jacob Alfredo Guerra, Enrique Alberto Garza, Jeremy Aranda, Enrique Ybarra, Ciro Muñoz, Rene Mares, and Jerome Rene Gonzales. Jorge L. Aranda and Andrés R. Ramos Jr. will serve as honorary pallbearers.
