Ruby W. Doubleday

Ruby Wright Doubleday passed away Saturday, December 17, 2017 at the age of 95.  She was preceded in death by two husbands, Leroy V. Wright and Thayer E. Doubleday Jr.  Also preceding her in death was her son Larry A. Wright, and great-grandson Shane A. Moeller.  She was the last living of 9 children born to M.C. and Maud Blackwell.

Ruby was a long time resident of the San Benito/Harlingen area and worked as a bookkeeper for J.C.Penney.  She was a volunteer for many years at Valley Baptist Hospital as well.

Ruby is survived by one daughter, Sandra Wright Shykes.  Also surviving her are four grandchildren:  Kimberly Wright Babineaux (Ricky), Kevin Wright, Cindy Shykes Moeller (Mike) and Stacey Shykes Stephens (Jordan) and 7 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, December 20th at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 21st at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito with Rev. Melissa Nelson officiating.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to the loving and compassionate ladies who cared for Ruby in her home prior to her move to a memory care community in San Antonio.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriner’s Childrens’ Hospital, First United Methodist Church in San Benito, or a charity of your choice.
