Ruben G. Peña

Ruben G. Peña peacefully passed from this life September 26, 2021 at 81 years of age. He was born to the late Fermín and Natividad Peña on April 9, 1940 in San Benito, Texas.

Ruben was a graduate of Harlingen High School, Class of 1959.  He retired after many years of farming and assisted his brother Rodolfo at Peña’s Service Station in San Benito.

In his leisure time, Ruben enjoyed photography. He especially enjoyed spending time with his loved ones at family gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fermín and Natividad Peña; brothers, Carlos (Ofelia) Peña, Rodolfo Peña, Pedro (Lupe) Peña; and nephew, Daniel Peña.

Left to treasure his memory are Ruben’s brother, Fermin (Irene) Peña, Jr. of Grand Saline, Texas; and, sister-in-law, Lydia Peña of Harlingen, Texas.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.  A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin Tuesday evening at 7 o’clock. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Harlingen. Following the Mass, Ruben will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Joe Albert Peña, Ruben Casares, Jr., Eleazar Garcia, Lupe Flores, Jesús Garcia, and David Sanchez.  Honorary pallbearers are Arnoldo Peña, Bobby Peña, and Edi Peña.
