San Benito, TX. - Ruben Vela, 58, born on June 3, 1956 to Ignacio Vela and Rita Solis Vela, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 in San Antonio, TX. Mr. Vela served a total of 38 years in the U.S. Army and served three tours in Iraq.
Mr. Vela was preceded in death by his wife Teresa Vela.
He is survived by his mother Rita Solis Vela of San Benito, TX.; his children Emilio Vela, Juana Vela both of San Antonio, TX, Ruby Vela of San Benito, TX; his 10 grandchildren; his siblings Maria V. Garza of Rancho Viejo, TX, Victoria V. Greenbaum of San Benito, TX, Rose V. Lopez of Bay City, TX, Ignacia V. Gonzalez, Refugio Vela, Juan Vela and Leonor V. Lopez of San Benito, TX.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Monday, September 1, 2014 at San Benito Funeral Home. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at St. Benedicts Catholic Church. Interment will follow to RGV State Veteran Cemetery, 25205 South Inspiration Rd., Mission, TX 78572 for a burial at 1 p.m.
