Ruben G. Garcia Sr., 58, of Los Fresnos, Texas, entered into eternal life with our heavenly Father on April 17, 2010.

Mr. Garcia was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Juan Garcia Sr. and Mrs. Nazaria Garcia, brother, Juan Garcia Jr., and sister, Carolina Garcia Gonzalez.

Left to cherish his memory are his lovely wife, Mrs. Juanita Garcia, his sons, Ruben Jr. and Jesus Garcia, daughter, Patricia Marie Garza, son-in-law Miguel A. Garza Jr., granddaughter, his precious love and joy, Mary Therese, three brothers, Carlos G. Garcia (Isabel), Abel G. Garcia (+Mary), Uvaldo G. Garcia (Betty) and two sisters, Manuela G. Cortez (Alfonso) and Lucila G. Bernal (Jose).

Mr. Garcia graduated from the Los Fresnos High School in 1970.  He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country proudly for four years.  During these four years, he served honorably in Vietnam.  In 1974, before being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Mr. Garcia earned the Vietnam Conduct Medal, Good Conduct Medals, Meritorious Service Medal and the Good Marksmanship Medal.  He majored and received a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Pan American University (UT) in 1977.  Mr. Garcia served as a Police Officer and was promoted to Chief of Police for the City of Los Fresnos, Texas before accepting a position with the U.S. Border Patrol in 1983.  Mr. Garcia continued to dedicate his service and life to our country with the U. S. Border Patrol.  His first assignment as a Border Patrol Agent was in Laredo, Texas.  He served in Laredo until his transfer to the Immigration and Naturalization Service, Harlingen, Texas, in 1988.  He was assigned to the Service Processing Center at the Port Isabel Detention Center as a Deportation Officer.  In 1997, he transferred back to the U. S. Border Patrol as a Supervisory Border Patrol Agent in Brownsville, Texas.  Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to Field Operations Supervisor at the Brownsville Border Patrol Station.  He served proudly until his retirement on January 3, 2006.  Mr. Ruben Garcia served our country faithfully for approximately 31 years.

Mr. Garcia was a long life member of the Santa Cecilia Catholic Church in Los Fresnos, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. on April 20, 2010 at the San Benito Funeral Home.

A mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on April 21, 2010 at Saint Cecilia’s Catholic Church with a committal service to follow at Los Cuates Cemetery in Los Fresnos, Texas.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Reynaldo Hernandez, Jesus Galarza, Jose A. Rodriguez, Jose Salazar Jr., Juan Sierra Jr., Ramon Garcia Jr.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to San Benito Funeral Home.
