Roy E. Winter Jr

Roy Earl Winter Jr. was living in Harlingen, Texas and passed away at the age of 92, on October 10, 2018.

Roy was born in Noodle, Texas to Roy E. Winter and Bertie Mae Tabor Winter on October 22, 1926.  He married Ruth (Carrie) on November 19, 1947 during their 68 years of marriage they had three daughters, Kathy (Mike) Harris, Karen (Dennis) House, Kitty (Leon) Van Holsbeke and son, Rocky (CJ) Winter.  Roy served his country in the 349th Infantry Regiment and was a paratrooper.   He spent most of his career in the Service Department of Ferguson Motors and Weslaco Motors.

Roy loved fishing and playing golf. He loved to attend Rocky’s softball games.  Roy was a player in early years for the Harlingen Team in the early 60’s.  He was a proud Cardinal father to all his children, especially Rocky’s Cardinal years as a football star.

Roy was preceded in death by his true love Ruth, both parents, his sisters Sybil, Thelma and Selma and his grandson, Toby Winter.

Roy has six grandsons Bryan (Candace) Harris, Brad Harris, Justin House, Reggie Van Holsbeke, Devin Van Holsbeke, Leon (Lisa) Van Holsbecke III; four great grandchildren, Ethan Harris, Kyndall Harris, Sophie Harris and Madison Van Holsbeke; one sister Geraldine Jackson of Abilene, Texas.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the funeral home.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held Monday, October 15, 2018, 10:00 am, at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Bryan Harris, Brad Harris, Justin House, Toby Winter, Reggie Van Holsbeke, Devin Holsbeke and his great grandchildren, Ethan Harris, Kyndall Harris, Madison Van Holsbeke and Sophie Harris.

The family would like to thank Valley Baptist Hospital’s Team at the ICU unit and the Hospice Care Team for their gentle and passionate care of our beloved father during his stay.
