Ronald E. "Ron" Waters

May 14, 1939 — January 5, 2022

On January 5, 2022, Ronald Earl “Ron” Waters went home to be with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. Because he walked with God daily, the Lord showed favor on him throughout his life.

On May 14, 1939, Ron was born to Walter J. and Ora M. Waters in Rio Hondo, Texas. He graduated from Rio Hondo High School and attended Rice University on a football scholarship. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Ron returned home to marry his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Geraldine “Gerry” Nale, and to manage the family business, Waters Farms.

Later, he completed his Master’s in Real Estate and started the Ron Waters Real Estate Company.  Ron also became the owner/manager of The Waters Implement Company John Deere dealership in Brownsville, Texas. It would be hard to catch him not wearing his boots and signature western hat. Upon his retirement in 2002, Ron’s sons carried on his real estate company of 40 years and, in his honor, incorporated his iconic cowboy hat into the company’s logo.

Ron had a magnetic personality; he loved people and they loved him back. He respected everyone and was a loyal friend. Nothing was more important to him than his family and friends. He cherished his wife of 61 years, was a devoted father, and adored his grandchildren. He also loved his church and church family, the First Baptist Church of Rio Hondo, where he was a lifelong active member.

To all who knew him, he will always be Ron Waters, “The One and Only.”

He is survived by his loving wife, Gerry Waters, Rancho Viejo, Texas; children: Rhonda Sellers (Greg), Dallas, Texas, Jeff Waters, Ryan Waters, Jon Waters (Karen), Ranch Viejo, Texas; grandchildren, Kendra Aristizabal (Diego), Dallas, Texas, Amanda Reachi (Alex), San Antonio, Texas, Ron Sellers, College Station, Texas, Peyton, Jake, Josh Waters, Rancho Viejo, Texas; sister and brother, Willa Compere, Bulverde, Texas, Don Waters, Rio Hondo, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his loving parents and brother, Walt.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
