SAN BENITO, TX. – Rolando Martinez, age 42, of Harlingen, Texas, was called Home by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, March 5, 2015.
Rolando was born in San Benito, Texas, on January 30, 1973, to his parents, Violanda Avalos Martinez and the late Jesus Martinez. Family was very important to Rolando; he was the youngest of 5 fiercely loyal brothers. Rolando was a 1991 graduate of San Benito High School, where, like all his older brothers before him, he played football and shared a deep love of the game.
Rolando worked for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), where he had the opportunity to travel and meet new people and make lasting friendships, friendships that he valued very much. He loved his job and was extremely proud of the camaraderie he shared with his co-workers. The TSA has been invaluable to the family during this extremely difficult time, and the family would like to express their extreme gratitude. Also, special thanks to a particular TSA agent, Amanda Carmona, for her loyalty to Rolando during his life, for her love and support of Rolando's family during this time, and for her going above and beyond to assist with making Rolando's final arrangements.
Rolando joins his father, Jesus Martinez, and his brother, Reynaldo Martinez, in eternal life.
He is survived by his mother, Viola Martinez Tamez; brothers, Jay (Michelle) Martinez of Harlingen, Texas, Romeo Subialdea of The Woodlands, Texas, and Richard (Tanya) Subialdea of Devine, Texas; his sister-in-law, Karina Martinez of Edinburg, Texas; nieces and nephews Brad (Alyssa) Subialdea, Courtney Trevino, Tyler Trevino, Michael Subialdea, Megan Leigh Meyer, and Jason Martinez; great-nieces, Aliyah and Della; and great-nephew, Thaddeus Rey. Rolando is also survived by his wonderful extended family (uncles, aunts, cousins), and a host of many, great friends.
Visitation will be held between the hours of 3:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, with a recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o’clock Wednesday evening within the San Benito Funeral Home Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at ten o'clock in the morning, in Our Lady, Queen of the Universe Catholic Church. Committal services will then follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
