Harlingen:
Terry Gray, 61, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Valley Baptist Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.
Terry was the youngest son of Vera and George Gray. He graduated from Harlingen High School in 1971 and earned a BBA in Accounting from Pan American University in 1976. While at Pan American University, Terry was active in the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He married Nancy Glispin on May 30, 1987 and they made their home in Harlingen.
He served as President of the Texas International Fishing Tournament and helped found the TIFT Endowment Fund, was Vice-Chairman of Harlingen Firemen’s Pension Fund, served on the National Board for the Coastal Conservation Association, President CCA-Texas, President for the Rio Grande Valley Chapter CCA and Co-Chairman of Harlingen/San Benito United Way, Treasurer of the Rio Grande Valley Council of Boy Scouts, Treasurer of the American Heart Association, Advisory Director for Gorgas Science Foundation, Director of Harlingen Industrial Foundation and the President of Harlingen Economic Development Council which helped bring the Bass Pro Shop to Harlingen.
Terry began his long successful banking career at First National Bank in Harlingen in 1974. He then rose through the ranks as Executive Vice-President, Chief Lending Officer and Advisory Director of area banks. He also was a longtime member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Harlingen.
“T” Gray had a love of all things outdoors especially fishing, hunting and boating. He will be remembered as, “Captain “T” Gray by land and sea”
Above all his greatest love was his wife, Nancy and two sons, Stephen Gray of College Station, TX and Taylor Gray of Corpus Christi, TX. Other survivors include his older brother, Doug Gray (Jeanlynn) of Dallas, TX and his nephew, Charles Gray (Susan) of Richmond, TX.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 22, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home. Private services will be held by the family.
