San Benito, TX – Rodolfo Z.” Rudy” Martinez, 60, lost his courageous battle to ALS/Lou Gehrigs and passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 26, 2012.
Rudy graduated from San Benito High School in 1971. He moved to Pasadena, Texas where he lived for almost 24 years. Rudy was a loyal Houston Texan fan, but he would always say, he was first a Mighty Greyhound.
Rudy had the upmost spirit, he always had what you would call a big personality, even throughout his illness, he was such a good sport, never did he loose his sense of humor.
A loving and dedicated father, son, brother and uncle and will forever be loved and missed by all whose heart he touched.
He is preceded in death by his father, Fidel Martinez.
Left behind to cherish his wonderful memory is his daughter and best friend, Jessica Corine; along with his pride and joy his grandchildren, Rudy Fidel, and twins, Abigail Nicole and Isabella Corin; his mother, whom he adored Guadalupe Z. Martinez; his brothers, Robert (Norma) Martinez, Rick (Pat) Martinez, Eddie (Liza) Martinez; his sisters, Rosalinda Z. Martinez, Belinda (Henry) Garza, Brenda (Herb) Amaya, Ruby (Rene) Contreras and Lora Martinez; and several nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 from 10:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. with the Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 P.M. at San Benito Funeral Home.
The funeral procession will depart San Benito Funeral Home on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 9:30 A.M. for a 10:00 A.M. Funeral Mass at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Catholic Church with Father Isaac Erondu officiating. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honor to serve as pallbearers will be Robert Martinez, Rick Martinez, Eddie Martinez, Herb Amaya, Rene Contreras, and Carlos Cortez; honorary pallbearers will be Henry Garza, Sr., nephews, Patrick and Cody Martinez, Alfonso Mtz-Hollenbeck, Eddie Martinez, Jr., Henry and Robert Garza, and Abraham and Adam Amaya.
The family wishes to express Special Thanks to Dr. Juan A. Maldonado and staff, Cima Hospice and the wonderful nurses, Belinda, Alma and Marisa for their excellent care.
