Roberto G. Lopez, 96, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2024 in Harlingen, Texas. He was born on February 27, 1928, in San Benito to Santiago Lopez and Faustina Guerra Lopez.
Roberto served his country as a Private Class in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, where he was honored with the Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal-Japan. Following his military service, he dedicated 30 years as an Operating RM Tech at Texas Chest Hospital before his well-deserved retirement. He was a member of the VFW US Post 2410 and held the position of Senior Vice Commander from 1983 to 1984.
Roberto found joy in tending to his yard, a passion that earned him recognition with "The Yard of the Month" award in San Benito, Texas.
Roberto is reunited in eternity with his beloved wife Josefina G. Lopez and his parents. Cherishing his memory are his children: Roberto Lopez Jr., Oscar Lopez, Armando Lopez, Mario Lopez; and his grandchildren: Robert Joseph Lopez (Sandy) and Michael Lopez (Ruby).
The Lopez family will be receiving friends and relatives on Sunday, July 14, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Roberto will be laid to rest with full military honors at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Roberto Lopez Jr., Oscar Lopez, Armando Lopez, Hector Cavazos and Luis Perez.
